We never thought we’d find a non-alcoholic spirit or mixer that makes you think you’re drinking a real gin and tonic, but the alcohol-free beverage world is innovating at such a rapid pace that it’s finally possible! The Temperance Spirit Company sent us a sample of their Teetotal G ‘n’ T and we were blown away. It was incredibly crisp and refreshing, and with fresh lime it tasted like the real thing. They suggest several pairings, such as rosemary, cucumber, rhubarb and even chili, which we can’t wait to try. Check out their story here.
We also discovered some amazing alcohol-free wines (0.0% ABV) from Spanish brand Lussory and Orient Drink SA’s Vendôme Mademoiselle which really impressed us. Thanks to Prudence Drinks for sending us samples. You may have heard of Lussory because their alcohol-free sparkling wine with flecks of edible 24-karat gold caused quite a stir in Dubai. The rosé from Vendôme had a beautiful color and smell. It was slightly tart, not too sweet, and was the perfect pairing for a picnic on a warm, sunny day. The labels are attractive and sophisticated and the wine looks good when poured into a glass.
We also tried bubbly samples from Botonique, which were well-suited for a prosecco glass. The drink has its own unique herbal taste (hence the name) so while it won’t be mistaken for prosecco, it makes a great festive drink, perfect for a girls spa day or a dinner party aperitif.
We are so thrilled to see great-tasting, alcohol-free options coming to market that can be enjoyed by drinkers and non-drinkers alike. That was DryScene’s mission when it started, to show bartenders and customers that there is a market for sophisticated, alcohol-free drinks. We hope to see more of them on offer in bars and restaurants everywhere. In the meantime, we’ll keep tasting and reviewing so that you know what to order! You can see our beverage reviews here. We also review bars and restaurants here and host fun events, so join us!
If you’re going out on the town this weekend, here are some tips from DryScene’s very own taste-tester DryChick on how to barhop sober.
