Dry-Friendly Bar: The Alchemist

A stone’s throw from the Gherkin and Liverpool Street Station, in the heart of The City (London’s financial district), The Alchemist beckons the banking crowd with an extensive list of cocktails and even custom-filled hip flasks for takeaway. But surprisingly that same menu boasts eight different crafted mocktails. On a dreary day I found myself thinking of a beach in Thailand while sipping the Virgin Pornstar (made with fresh passionfruit of course). The rain lashing against the floor-to-ceiling window next to me brought me quickly back to reality as I slurped the last drops. (Next time I would order one on the rocks rather than with crushed ice as there was more ice than drink). Ollies Cucumber Sling made with apple, elderflower, lemon and cucumber was a refreshing choice. Looking forward to trying the Mochatini and Mango Shake on my next visit.

Decor: Dark chocolate-brown couches, luggage trunks for tables, palm trees and copper bar with chill music like “Today” by Avery Sunshine.

Price range: GBP3.50-GBP4 (yes, really!)
