The Anthologist is a bar and restaurant located in “The City” (London’s financial district) and one of the beautifully-appointed bars owned by Drake & Morgan. With fresh produce such as lemons and limes in the windows and basil plants as table centerpieces, you can imagine how fresh the ingredients are in their mocktails. (Don’t be surprised to find yours is garnished with edible flowers.)
Mixologist and Bar Supervisor Filip Gregor takes great pride in crafting tasty custom drinks. While he prefers making cocktails — the last bar he worked in had 165 different rums which he swears he could identify in a blind taste-test — he realizes that alcohol-free drinks have to be well-made and taste good to make sure you’re not missing a thing.
He says his homemade infused syrups are a key ingredient, and there’s really nothing you can’t infuse — herbs, fruits, vegetables and even meat. One of his favorites is a bacon-infused Virgin Mary, which you can make alcohol-free with tomato juice, salt, pepper, Tobasco sauce, lemon and Worcestershire sauce.
He points out that the cocktail that won the Bacardi Legacy Global Cocktail Competition last year had only a handful of ingredients, including fresh fruit.
“Sometimes less is more, and with just a few ingredients you can create a classic,” he said.
Tip: While there are several mocktails as part of the “Zero Proof Collection” on the menu, ask for an alcohol-free version of the Skinny Superfood Collins (fresh berries and basil) or ask them to make you a signature drink with your favorite flavors.
Decor: Copper ceiling and bar, candles and basil plants on the tables, butterflies and funky lighting. Attracts bankers and normal people alike.
